Trapezius Neck Stretch - Sitting

Sit on your stretching mat with your legs crossed (or how you feel comfortable). Take the arm from the side you want to stretch behind your back and hold it in place with the other arm. Now tilt your head away from the shoulder of the arm that is being pulled to the side and slightly downwards.

Slowly and gently pull the arm across behind your back while still holding a strong tilt on the neck until you feel a stretch of 7/10 and hold it for at least 30 seconds, then change over and do the other side.

Do's Don'ts
  • Do keep your stomach tight
  • Do keep the movement slow and controlled
  • Do breathe deeply and slowly
  • Don't hold your breath
  • Don't take the stretch too far
  • Don't arch your back
  • Don't roll your head back
  • Don't do this stretch if you have a bad neck
  • Don't bounce your head to increase the stretch
