Cat Stretch

On your stretching mat position yourself on your hands and knees (avoid locking your elbows out). Make sure your hands are under your shoulders and your knees are under your hips.

For this stretch you will feel it where ever it is tightest along your spine, for most that will be in your lower back.

Slowly push your back up to the ceiling (as a cat would stretch), tilting your pelvis in and tuck your chin into your chest until you feel the stretch is a 7/10 and hold it for at least 30 seconds.

Do's Don'ts
  • Do keep your stomach tight
  • Do move in a slow controlled manner
  • Do breathe deeply and slowly
  • Do tuck your chin in as close to your chest as possible
  • Don't hold your breath
  • Don't take the stretch too far
  • Don't lock your elbows out
  • Don't bounce up to increase the stretch
