Upright Row - Smith Machine

Set the Smith Machine bar to about waist height. Stand with your feet hip width apart and with good posture (tummy tight; shoulders back; chest out; chin in).

Hold the bar with your hands shoulder width apart and your palms facing you. Lead the movement with your elbows lift the bar up, keeping it against your body, until your elbows are above your shoulders and as high as you can get them, then slowly lower the bar back down again. Your elbows should always be higher than your hands in this movement.

Do's Don'ts
  • Do keep your stomach tight
  • Do keep a good posture
  • Do breathe out on the way up and in on the way down
  • Do keep your body close to the bar
  • Do lead the movement with your elbows
  • Don't hold your breath
  • Don't arch your back
  • Don't bring the bar higher than your shoulders
