Bench Press Narrow Grip - Machine

Lie down on your back on the bench (making sure the bench is flat), set the machine to your height so that the handle bars are in line with your lower chest and keeping your tummy tight so that you do not arch your lower back (if the bench is too high forcing your back to arch and your feet do not rest comfortably on the ground then place your feet on the bench - if you are unsure; ask an instructor).

Place your hands on the narrow grip so that your palms are facing each other. slowly push your arms up straight, avoid locking out your elbows, and lower again as low as you comfortably can without the weight stack touching.


Do's Don'ts
  • Do keep your tummy tight
  • Do keep a slight bend in the elbow at the straightest point
  • Do breathe out on the way up and in on the way down
  • Do keep the movement slow and controlled
  • Do bring your legs up off the floor if your back arches
  • Don't let your back arch
  • Don't hold your breath
  • Don't let the weights touch on the way down
