What weight to choose

French Press - Barbell

Set the bench up so that it is flat and lie down on your back.

Hold the barbell with your hands shoulder width apart, your palms facing towards your feet and your arms completely vertical above your shoulders.

The only movement should come from your elbow joint. Slowly bend your elbows lowering the weight to the floor until your elbows are at 90 degrees and your forearms are horizontal. Please be careful not to hit yourself in the head with the bar.

Now push the barbell back up to vertical to complete one repetition of the exercise.


Do's Don'ts
  • Do keep your tummy tight
  • Do breathe out on the way up and in on the way down
  • Do keep your upper arm still
  • Do only allow the forearm to move
  • Don't arch your back
  • Don't swing the weight
  • Don't move your upper arm to aid the movement
  • Don't hold your breath
  • Don't hit yourself in the head
